Dennie Booth, Chairman

Dennie BoothMy husband, George and I have been married 28 years. Our first five years of marriage we lived in the San Francisco Bay area then moved to Roseville where we still live. We have one son, Justin who was homeschooled exclusively. He has graduated high school and will be heading off to college in August.

Our family has been SCOPE members since we first started homeschooling, joining the Roseville West Chat Group. Being part of a chat group has been a wonderful blessing for our whole family plus getting to know other families from other chat groups. Throughout the years of homeschooling, I have served as a chat group leader for two years, SCOPE Project Fair Coordinator for two years, SCOPE Conference Exhibitor Coordinator for three years, and helping or serving where needed.

We enjoy travelling be it a day trip, weekend or two week adventure. A few places we have been able to tour are museums, California Missions, Crater Lake, the Battlefields of the Civil War, US Capital, Mount Vernon, covered Bridges in New Hampshire and Maine, the Coliseum in Rome, statue of David in Florence, Hadrian’s Wall in Northern England, the Highlands of Scotland, the beaches of Hawaii, and the Everglades in Florida. These adventures were fun and educational as well, always something to tie into learning.

Although my homeschooling journey has come to an end, I feel the Lord is calling me to continue my involvement with SCOPE and the homeschooling community. When I first began homeschooling, I was blessed with a couple homeschooling Moms who came along side me and mentored me. Now, it is my time to give back and pass on the blessing. SCOPE is a wonderful organization for homeschooling families, our family benefited so much, now with some time on my hands it is time for us to give back. I’m looking forward to what the LORD has planned for SCOPE and the board can serve the organization.

I look forward to serving on the SCOPE board and helping homeschool families.

Kathy Downard, Librarian

Kathy DownardMy name is Kathy Downard. I am happy to be serving as the SCOPE Librarian. My husband Brendan and I live in Citrus Heights. We have been married almost 14 years. The Lord has blessed us with five children. Ages: twelve, eight, six, four and eleven months old. We became SCOPE subscribers seven years ago.

Our family enjoys Scouting, playing games, biking, and reading. We try to read books that will help build Godly character. We have found the SCOPE Library to be helpful in this area by providing good Christian books that both young and old enjoy reading. We have also enjoyed the educational audio and video tapes that are available at the library.

I would like all SCOPE subscribers to have the enjoyment of going to a library with good Christian and home schooling resources in a child friendly atmosphere. I look forward to many visitors. For more information on the SCOPE library you can call Kathy Downard (916) 725-1306 or check here for the SCOPE library. The library hours are 1pm to 4pm on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. librarian@scopehome.org

Richard Wuehler, Secretary

Richard WeuhlerRichard Wuehler and his wife Deborah have been homeschooling for about ten years and have been members of SCOPE for about as long. They currently have five children enrolled in their school with two others on the waiting list. Deborah is a chat group leader for Roseville East, and also writes for several homeschooling publications. Richard enjoys exploring creation science with his children (did you know insects instinctively jump/fly towards the person most afraid of them as proven by years of careful lab experience with insects and my family smiley face).

I’m learning how to be a tactful Sergeant At Arms, and keep the board meetings moving without making too many enemies; I’m looking forward to serving the SCOPE board and homeschooling families in the area. I appreciate the many benefits of SCOPE such as regular encouragement of homeschooling in the Lord Jesus Christ, SCOPE Library and newsletter resources, field trips, project fairs, and conferences with like minded believers in the Lord, and am honored to be a part of this great organization.

Carissa Ruiz, Newsletter Editor/Publications Director

Jerry JozwiakCarissa Ruiz has been homeschooling since 1998. She is a mother of three and the wife of Edward. She is passionate about the Christian homeschooling movement and loves to encourage others on this amazing, yet laborious, journey.

Her goal in this humbling SCOPE position is to inspire families to continue to privately homeschool, that they see the hand of God moving in their dedication to homeschool, and to let our homeschoolers know they are not in this alone. We all get tired, we all get inspired, we all have dirty homes, we all have to clean our homes, and yep, “what’s for dinner?” is the main question of each day.

Pray for me to find the information you need and to produce a newsletter that honors God. Pray for all SCOPE members to hold fast to that which we all heard the calling. Pray that we all endure this race, and that we produce children that will honor God.

Blessings and peace,
Carissa Ruiz

Anita Jackier, Treasurer

Anita JackierHi, my name is Anita Jackier and I am pleased to serve as the SCOPE Treasurer. My husband Barry and I celebrated our 20th anniversary in 2008 and we have two children (9 and 7) and two grandchildren (4 and 1) from my husband’s daughter. Prior to God moving mountains and providing a way for me to stay home, I spent 15 years in the workforce in various forms of accounting. ‘Numbers are your friends” became my trademark phrase. It seemed I always worked with people who didn’t like numbers and didn’t understand what to do with them. I thought I was leaving that behind forever. Now I’m educating my children at home and trying to show them that numbers are indeed their friends! God sure has a sense of humor! Even before we had children, we were committed to homeschooling. We saw our friends’ children either spiritually flounder in public school or flourish at home. We knew that God was not offering any options – just the mandate to teach them as we rise up and as we sit down; as we go in and as we go out. Life has thrown us a few curve balls along the way, but we have not waivered in the belief that our children belong at home with us. I have been a member of SCOPE for six years and a chat group leader for three. I am excited to be able to put my years of accounting experience to use for the purpose of furthering private independent homeschooling.
